New
Mills Whitewater Site
The first stage of the New Mills project is about to go live...
public consultation. As well as an information brochure (asking
for comments) circulated to canoeing clubs and all sorts of contacts
from various organisations, there will be a small display at The
Forum in Norwich on Thurs 3rd, Friday 4th and Sat 5th June. The
over all aim of the consultation is to find out if there are any
'show stoppers' for the project and to inform the next stage (environmental
impact assessment and project feasibility).
Please
can you help?
We need volunteers who can spare an hour or two to be at the Forum
on any of the three days. The aim is to show a presence from canoeists.
You don't have to know all about the New Mills proposal although
I will give you briefing information. A representative from the
consultants carrying out the consultation
(Atkins Water) will be there all the time and a rep from the City
Council for some of the time. I will produce a handout with local
canoeing details on it because we are expecting a number of people
to ask where they can go and paddle or learn / have a go.
Please let me know if you can spare a little time with this or forward
this email to anyone who you think might be able to.
If
you are able to help, either email me or phone if you want to chat
about it. My home phone number is 01603 453503 - evenings best.
Please
note: at this stage of the project we don't need to assess demand
in any depth - we will be asking canoeists to make a big show of
support at the next stage when more information will be made available.
Whitlingham Lane
Norwich C.C. are involved in a project to have new premises at the
Whitlingham Lane site. We also understand that NYCS are moving all
of their watersports activities from Eagle and Filby to a new site
at Whitlingham Lakes.
